Rules & Setup
Introduction
For those who have participated in the first 7 seasons of PFCL, things should sound familiar. Even copied most of the information from last season. For those who are new to the league, let me try to explain.
Punters Fantasy Cycling League let's a manager select his team through a draft system before the start of the season. The team has to consist of 15 cyclists. This team will score points as the riders are in the top 15 result of a race from the calendar. So far a regular kind of prediction game. However the league part is what makes it interesting; the races are grouped together in rounds or match-days. This creates a fixture where teams are matched-up and can score 2 match-points for a victory or 1 match-point for a draw. These results of the fixtures are summarized in the league table. The table is sorted by scored match-points and with a tied standings, the number of points scored in all matches will be used to sort. In the unlikely event of exactly the same score, then the 2 fixtures between them we be taken into account.
Pricepool
The entrance fee will be £15 (or €17.50) per team of which roughly £1 goes into admin fee, to cover the currency swaps and PayPal transaction fee's, and the rest goes in the price pool. We have 30 teams participating and this will be the price-pool distribution;
Draft
Everyone will start with $1500 as their budget. There will be multiple round in the drafting and this will go on until all the teams are full. You can bid for up to 10 riders in each round. You can not spend more money in the draft than the remaining budget. The whole drafting process will be explained in detail in the following post. All drafts will be done via email or in special occasions via DM on Twitter.
Draft Deadlines
The deadlines for each round of auctions will be as follows, I stress these are deadlines, you can submit your bids way in advance:
This should get all the bidding done by the time the season starts (first race will be on the 23rd of January) and should give people time to consider their bids and not have to rush making any decisions. I will try to get the results out by the end of the day or following morning at the latest. I also will send out the list of players that have joined each team and information on the remaining budget for each manager. I know we have managers from various difference time zones so all these timings are in Amsterdam time GMT+1,
Do have a good think about your draft bidding strategies, there are plenty of articles about fantasy draft bidding. On this site the previous draft periodes are also in the blog-posts of previous years. These can be found in the top menu to select a season and then go to the post around December or January.
Redraft
During the season we'll have re-draft windows. This will start with the option for teams to release riders and get half their value refunded in return. After this I will make the team overview including budgets and the free-agentlist. The re-draft will start when the list is posted, with every 2 days a round until all teams are full again. After roughly every 10 matchups there will be a re-draft scheduled. Deadlines and detail will be posted here in due time. In the fixtures it will also show when the redrafted teams will count in the scoring.
Calendar
The calendar will consist of all UCI races *.1+ races for man and women and all Continental, World and Olympic championships, excluding TTT's. This is different from last year, where also .2 races for women counted, but usually the results are late and make only small impacts on the outcome of a fixture. The races will and be to grouped into the rounds or match-days. The total calendar and the consisting of the rounds or match-days will be here as well. The UCI calendar is still under construction; http://www.uci.ch/road/calendar/
Points
The cyclist will score points according to race-type and Classification listed below, TTT's are excluded. For the 3 Grand Tours this year we will also have points for the overall mountain and sprinters rankings. This will be 2 times the points of a stage in this grand tour. That way a team with a good sprinter or attacker now also gets points in the last week of the GT.
